What personal data do we collect and why do we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Contact forms
When a visitor uses the contact form on our “Contact Us” page, the user’s name, email address, and message are securely sent to our email inbox. The user’s browser, user agent, and IP address are also collected to check against spam.
Email newsletter
Techaligent offers its visitors an opt-in form where they can subscribe to an email newsletter that is sent daily/weekly. Information about new posts at Techaligent and the latest happenings in the technology world is provided using these newsletters. When a user subscribes, his/her name and email address are securely transferred and stored in our database.
Data collected using the email newsletter form is only used to send newsletters.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
We use third-party advertising companies to serve advertisements at some fixed places on the blog. Some of them, like Google Adsense, uses the DART cookie to serve advertisement based on user interest and previous interaction. This cookie is used to serve ads specific to you and your interests (” interest-based targeting”). You can always opt out of DART cookie settings by visiting the Google Adsense and Content Network Policy.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
We use cookies to analyze user activity to improve the website. The collected data is in no way used to personally identify you. For example, using Cookies we can look at aggregate patterns like the average number of users that visit the website. We can use such analysis to gain insights about how to improve the functionality and experience of the website.
Please refer to Google Analytics’ privacy policy to learn what data is collected and how it is used. You can use the Google Analytics opt-out browser addon to prevent Google from using your data for analytics.
Who do we share your data with
Nobody. All user data is stored on our servers. We never share or sell this data to any third parties. We do use third-party services to deliver services (for example email newsletters), however, it is processed via an API and your user data stays safe with us.
How long do we retain your data?
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
What rights do you have over your data?
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
If you have provided your data for the email newsletters, then you can click on the unsubscribe link to stop receiving any future campaigns from us. We periodically delete inactive subscribers, however, you can always contact us for your data to be immediately removed from our servers.
